Workshop de Investigação sob o tema "Anthropology of Antarctic Tourism Culture: practices, myths and visual narratives",  a decorrer no ISCTE-IUL, sala B202, edifício II, no próximo dia 5 de Junho de 2013 entre as 13h30 e as 14h30, com a participação dos investigadores Dennis Zuev e David Picard.

Dennis Zuev e David Picard participaram na 2ª Campanha Antártica do Programa Polar Português onde levaram a cabo o seu projeto de investigação intitulado ANATOCU - Anthropology of Antarctic Tourism Culture: Proposal for a Preliminary Study.

O grupo de investigação em Ambientes Antárticos e Alterações Climáticas (ANTECC) do Centro de Estudos Geográficos/IGOT-UL, vem convidá-lo(a) para a conferência "Long-term Evolution of the East Greenland Landscape: From Rifts to Glaciers", pelo Professor Darrel Swift da Universidade de Sheffield (Reino Unido), a realizar no dia 3 de Junho de 2013, pelas 12h na sala 1 do IGOT - Universidade de Lisboa (metro Cidade Universitária).

Esta conferência é promovida pelo CEG/IGOT e é a primeira atividade conjunta do Grupo de Investigação Polar da Universidade de Lisboa.

The 4th European Conference on Permafrost – IPA Regional Conference (EUCOP4), will be held in Évora, Portugal from 18 to 21 June 2014. The conference will cover all aspects of permafrost research, engineering and outreach and will have a Global scope, including planetary permafrost.

Sessions at EUCOP4 will be driven by the scientific community and we hereby open the call for session proposals, which should be submitted on-line until 30 March 2013. 

Each session should have two conveners, which will be responsible for the final selection of abstracts and for their organization into oral or poster presentations. By 30 April 2013, a decision will be presented on acceptance of submitted sessions. The decision will be made based on the scientific interest and quality of the session, potential to attract participants, thematic overlap and number of available slots at the conference. Invitation of one key-note speaker for each session is expected. 

If key fields are not represented in the submitted list of session proposals, EUCOP4 National and International Scientific Committees will organize special session proposals to guarantee a wide scope for the conference.

The call for abstracts for the accepted sessions will be open until 15 December 2013. After that date, depending on number of abstracts being submitted to each session, EUCOP4 Scientific Committees may propose session joining or cancelling. The selection of abstracts will be made by session conveners until 30 January 2014 and decisions will be communicated to authors by then. The final program will be ready in March 2014.

EUCOP4 will only publish normal abstracts, which will be about 1 page A4 in length. 

The online form for submitting session proposals is available below and will remain open until 31 March 2013.

If you intend to submit a session proposal, the following items will be requested in the online form:
a)     Title of session;
b)    Convenors (name, affiliation, and e-mail);
c)     Session description (max. 300 words);
d)    Name and affiliation of one confirmed keynote speakers who has agreed to contribute a presentation to this session.

Estamos numa SEMANA POLAR!

As SEMANAS POLARES, que é parte do projecto "Profissão: Cientista Polar" com o programa  PROPOLAR (ver tambémhttp://www.propolar.org/), a APECS PORTUGAL (Associação de Jovens Investigadores Polares de Portugal;http://www.portalpolar.com/apecs-portugal.html) e a APECS internacional (http://apecs.is).

Esta SEMANA POLAR está a decorrer até 16 de Março, e conta com numerosas atividades , nomeadamente palestras nas escolas, skype calls e paneis de discussão em Portugal (a grande maioria) e com o Reino Unido, França e S. Tomé (cerca de 30 eventos). Obrigado a todos que estão a participar!

Teremos ainda uma workshop internacional sobre ciência e educação polar no final do mês, dirigido principalmene a professores e educadores (seguindo a última conferência do Ano Polar Internacional de Montreal 2012) que vos manteremos informados (ir ahttp://www.facebook.com/groups/445032592244427/) .

A Embaixada do Canadá convida a assistir à  projeção do documentário do Office national du film du Canada, intitulado “Mon Village au Nunavik” do realizador Bobby Kenuajuak, a que se segue a Conferência “L’Arctique: Les Inuits du Nunavik: questions d’actualité” pela professora, investigadora e escritora canadiana Michèle Therrien, no próximo dia 19 de Março (Terça-Feira) às 19.00hrs no Institut français du Portugal na Av. Luís Bívar, 91 em Lisboa.

O evento apresenta os desafios da vida quotidiana no Ártico, um meio com características difíceis de sobrevivência, o dia à dia  dos seus habitantes, a sua organização local, as suas tradições e a forma como recorrem às novas tecnologias.

The 5th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology will be held in Big Sky, Montana (USA) from 8-12 September 2013. This meeting will be a continuation of the highly successful meetings previously held in Rovaniemi, Finland (2004), Innsbruck, Austria (2006), Banff, Canada (2008) and Ljubljana, Slovenia (2011), which brought together leading international researchers and students in this field. The objectives of the Big Sky meeting will be again to bring together scientists, students and professionals to discuss all aspects of cold-adapted microorganisms and the roles they play in polar and alpine environments, to address recent developments, and to exchange ideas and experiences on an international scale. The conference will provide a multi-disciplinary forum to explore emerging areas in the field and as always, will have a wealth of opportunities for the exchange of ideas and building of collaborations.
